INTA’s Europe Amicus Subcommittee Marks Unprecedented Number of Submissions
During the 2020–2021 Committee Term, INTA's (International Trademark Association) International Amicus Committee, Europe Amicus Subcommittee, filed an unusually large amount of submissions with European authorities. Our Partner, Dr. Marina Perraki led the work proceedings of the Subcommittee which filed a total of 12 briefs.
As there is no formal amicus procedure before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), INTA submitted seven papers as part of the submissions, a particularly remarkable achievement. Additionally, the Association made use of the newly created procedure that allows interested parties to participate in GBoA proceedings by filing five briefs with the Grand Board of Appeal (GBoA) of the European Intellectual Property Office.
In an interview published in the 2020 INTA Annual Report, Dr. Marina Perraki offered her perspective on the factors that led to a greater-than-usual number of amicus briefs in Europe during the previous term, stating: β€We had coordinated actions from day one, starting from raising awareness and engaging in new procedures to monitor possible cases, to effectively working on the drafting of briefs under very tight deadlines. All this was made possible due to the aspiration of our members, their brilliant legal minds, and excellent teamwork.β€
